My story:

In 2018, after the chronic stress of an intense job in management consulting, I had little energy and was constantly sick. Cold exposure was all about health for me: I wanted to recover my immune system.

I decided to not just watch documentaries about Wim Hof, but practice the method: cold showers, breathing and setting commitments became a routine for me.

It helped me physically, but also mentally: knowing that you can handle the discomfort of the cold, can translate to handling other stressful situations in life.

I felt healthy and strong again.

But one promise of the WHM was not fully realized, yet: "happy".

I explored going into the cold: walking in snow, ice cold rivers, hiking up a snowy & windy mountain in shorts. Whenever I was before a new challenge, my mind began to run in circles: 'I am not ready, yet', 'I don't need this', 'this is dangerous', 'what will they think of me', 'what if ...'. 

...assumptions and preconditioning that all disappeared when I stepped into the experience. It's soothing to know that the mind can run in circles (what Buddhists call the 'monkey mind') and that we can choose to not take all it says seriously. 

I found that becoming aware of this, is an infinite source of well-being.

It's a reminder that talking & thinking yourself into well-being is not the only strategy: team up with your body once in a while.
