Wake up to this one precious life you have and tap in to your unlimited potential!
Instructor Level
I have been working in a variety of health and social care settings in the U.K. and the U.S. since the early 90’s. I have a counselling and psychotherapy background and worked as a young person’s drug and alcohol counsellor for a number of years.
I have been studying meditation since 2004 and attend meditation retreats on an annual basis to deepen my own practice. I began teaching mindfulness in 2012 and in 2013, I was awarded a Masters Degree in Studies in Mindfulness from the University of Aberdeen and upon graduation I was invited back to teach on the same programme. In 2015, I set up a mindfulness initiative in the health service, to teach mindfulness and compassion based interventions to NHS staff, which is my current day job. I have been practicing TaeKwon-Do since 1991 and I am a 5th degree black belt. I am also a Budokon Yoga and Mobility Teacher and I teach martial arts and yoga classes a few evenings and mornings a week.
I am filled with curiosity and I suppose you could say I am a seeker of sorts. I love exploring what the world has to offer; while at the same time turning my attention inwards to become more awake and connected. Each year you will find me travelling to some corner of the world and cycling from place to place (I particularly love Asia).
I practiced the Wim Hof Method (WHM) in isolation for a number of years before attending a couple of Fundamentals Workshops. Here I was encouraged to go deeper into the breathing and experienced the energy and power of breath work in full effect, while in the presence of a supportive group. At this point I realized the potential power of the WHM and enrolled in the Wim Hof Academy programme to become a certified instructor and share the method with others. During my instructor training, I formed a deeper connection with and understanding of the cold, while immersing myself in the local river.
Standing in the river, with a sunrise on my face, watching the heron's fly past, is my favourite part of the day.
I live in Cumbria in the North West of England, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty, famous for its lakes and mountains. It is here I run most of my WHM Fundamentals workshops, with a sprinkling of meditation and yoga. I am happy to work with you in a group or on a 1:1 basis. My mission is to use all of the skills and abilities I have picked up over the years to help anyone and everyone, overcome the obstacles of life, explore their full potential and wake up to this one precious life we have. Let’s throw off the shackles of conformity, stop playing small and living in fear and become the most awesome version of ourselves.
I look forward to meeting you soon, Ian
