The Wim Hof Method offers a fantastically intuitive and fun way to reconnect with ourselves, others and nature around us. Guiding you in Conscious Breathing, Cold Exposure and Mindset Training I can help you to learn to use the method as a way to improve your happiness, strength and health!

 

By willingly entering the freezing cold and exercising control over our breath, we train our body and our mind to better handle stress. In many ways, the Ice Bath we face through the Wim Hof Method workshops are a metaphor for the many different types of stress we face in our day-to-day lives. Over time, we find the cold becomes a friend and a great teacher; one that helps us to build our own resilience to face these daily challenges head on and to lean into life. The breathing exercises are not only a full cardiovascular workout, they also offer us the opportunity to rebalance our hormonal system, find homeostasis, and reconnect with our body and mind.

 

About me:

Nowadays I am a WHM certified instructor and qualified breathwork coach; I also am the founder/run the Coggeshall Cold Water Dippers, a local community group passionate about the benefits of cold water exposure. But it wasn't always like this... Triggered by stress from work, relationships, anxiety and a loss of motivation and confidence, I found the Wim Hof Method whilst Covid was at its height. I came to the method from a background in, and passion for, Mindful Awareness practice (meditation courses with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach) and what first amazed me about the WHM was its ability to reach that level of calm and "space" achieved through meditation, in a much more reliable way. Whereas no two meditation sessions are ever the same (with some even ending in frustration!), even a short WH breathing session never fails to bring me back to calm and centre, when I need it most.

Over time I found myself feeling less anxious and stressed and I began to notice the days that I missed a cold shower. My confidence also increased after practicing the method and this led me to want to push and stretch myself in ways I had not done for years. One incredible example of this would be that I started Freediving (diving whilst holding your breath) as a way to confront my lifelong discomfort around water! Since my first difficult trial dive, I have joined the club and dive every week. I have participated in dive trips around the Cornish coast, in a specialist dive pit in Germany, in the frozen waters of Iceland and in club competitions. Crucially, my relationship with water has changed drastically and being around water, or in it, no longer brings me anxiety. I genuinely believe one of the biggest benefits of the WHM is in the way it teaches us “to lean into life”.

In 2022, I joined Wim Hof himself on the Winter Expedition in Poland. Originally coming from a position of wanting to challenge myself to see if I could do the ice baths or if I could climb the frozen mountain, I came to realise that there was so much else to the method and the man behind it. A deep reconnection with the self, improved relations with the people around me – it was an incredible experience.

The “ah-ha” moment and look of wonder that I saw in other people’s faces during that expedition is what made me want to become an instructor; so that I can help others to experience these moments for themselves.
